L.A. Matheson Secondary School teacher Annie Ohana was featured twice in the last week in pieces that aired on CBC Television. One nationally and one provincially.
First, the Surrey high school teacher was quoted from the scene of the Holland Park, Surrey Rally for Safe Schools on CBC's flagship news program, The National. This clip aired August 29, 2021.
Ohana was then featured on CBC British Columbia on September 1, 2021. In this segment, Ohana discusses final preparations for the 2021/22 school year. Among other issues, she highlights concern regarding the change in BC CDC policy to eliminate school-wide COVID-19 exposure notifications.
Check out other recent appearances in BC media members of Safe Schools Coalition BC have made. We continues to raise our voices over the need for the BC NDP government to step-up with improved back-to-school safety measures. Our demands include: lost single-exposure school-wide notifications; mask regulations extended to students in grades K-3, non-penalizing remote education options; vaccination requirements for educators and staff; and transparency around exactly what air ventilation and filtration improvements have been made in BC schools.
